Hutchinson Center can tailor college to fit you

The economy may have slowed down, but you don’t have to. The Midcoast branch of the University of Maine, the Hutchinson Center, is ready to help you in all facets of getting started (or re-started) in your pursuit of a college degree. This includes help with financial aid, academic advising, registration and anything else you may need help with.

No reason to wait. There is still time to take college courses this Fall semester.
A sampling of some live on-site courses to choose from:

  • ART (Drawing, Painting and Sculpture)
  • SCIENCE in our brand new state-of-the-art labs (Biology and Chemistry)
  • BUSINESS (Introduction and principles of finance)
  • PSYCHOLOGY (General, social, statistics, evolutionary, parenting, abnormal child and more)
  • MATH (Elementary algebra, statistics)
  • NEW MEDIA (Web Design, Photoshop, Books, Images and Words, Design & Illustration and more)
  • EDUCATION (Certification, early literacy, special education, instructional technology)
  • GENERAL EDUCATION (English comp., philosophy, history, Maine studies, music political science, Spanish, and more)

Whether you are 16, 36, 56, 96 or anything in between, the Hutchinson Center has something for you. There are local scholarships available as well as funding for those receiving Unemployment Benefits for retraining education.

The new GI Bill for the 21st Century officially took effect on August 1st, and greatly expands educational opportunities to troops who have served since 9/11 and their families.

High school students who are juniors and seniors with a B average or better can take college courses through the Aspirations program. Senior citizens, who are Maine residents 65 years of age or older, are eligible for full tuition waivers for University classes (on a space available basis).

The University of Maine Hutchinson Center is your local university campus that offers many full Undergraduate and Graduate degrees right in Belfast. The Hutchinson Center is currently accepting registrations for the Fall 2009 semester, most classes start the week of August 31st. You can pursue a full degree or just start with one or two courses. Classes are delivered live, online, ITV and video conferencing. Call the Center for free advising, career planning and course selection. You can also benefit from financial assistance, tutoring, mentoring as well as scholarships. You can even earn a Bachelor’s of University Studies all online!

What do you get? Small class size, modern facility and technological resources, friendly staff, and financial and personal benefits of staying local (no need for room and board, save on gas and other transportation expenses, as well as both daytime and evening classes, and more).
