What do Non-Traditional Undergrad Students Need?

Print PDF

The University of Maine System is seeking input from non-traditional students, (e.g. over age 24 working towards a Baccalaureate degree or part-time or non-degree) to determine what this population of students needs. They are holding a series of focus groups around the state. One is meeting at the Hutchinson Center today, Feb. 13, at 4:30 p.m. You are invited to attend.

Lu Zeph, Dean of the Division of Life Long Learning and Associate Provost, is leading the University of Maine effort that will report its findings to the Chancellor and the Board of Trustees.

If you cannot attend this meeting, we encourage you to complete an online survey at the link below to provide the System with your opinions.

Nonprofit Organization Management Certificate Program Announced for 2013

Print PDF

If you run or are involved in the management of a Nonprofit organization, than the workshops offered this year at the Hutchinson Center may be just the professional development training and networking you are looking for!

Nonprofit organizations, just like businesses, need the strategies and skills to keep their organization alive and well during these times of declining resources.   The University of Maine Hutchinson Center has designed the Certificate Program in Nonprofit Organizational Management for Nonprofit Executives, staff members, and leaders to deal with contemporary issues and problems using realistic "hands on" strategies.  The various workshops will encourage interactive discussion of "real world" situations and actively engage participants in quality planning, effective program and service development, creative problem solving and issue resolution.

The typical session will be one day in length, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.  The Grant writing workshop is two days.  Upon completion of six workshops that comprise the program, individuals will earn a Certificate in Nonprofit Organization Management from the University of Maine Hutchinson Center.  You can register for any one workshop or for the series.  The cost for each one-day workshop is $150 ($255 for the two-day Grant writing workshop).  Each workshop fee will include continental breakfast, lunch and all workshop materials.

The first workshop session will be on March 4, 2013 with Dr. Frank Burtnett.~ The topic is, "Effective Use of Volunteers." Volunteers are often the life-blood of the nonprofit organization, allowing it to fulfill its mission with limited expenditures for paid staff members.  Every aspect of volunteer management will be examined, including volunteer identification, preparation, retention, evaluation and recognition.  Finally, the blending of paid staff and volunteers will be addressed.
