In these difficult times, even nonprofit directors, their staff and their boards need to be proactive in planning for today and the future.
On Friday, February 24, join us to the first session in this year’s Nonprofit Management Certificate program – Strategic Planning and Management in the Nonprofit Organization. The workshop will begin at 8:30 a.m. and run until 4:00 p.m. and is being co-taught by Carole Martin and Lori Roming. The focus of this workshop will be on understanding the planning, design, implementation, evaluation and maintenance process of a non-profit organization. This body of knowledge will help non-profit staff and leaders create and build a more effective organization. Visioning, setting organizational goals and creating or revising the mission statement will also be included in the session. Each participant will learn the steps required to put together a workable strategic plan for his or her organization.

Lori Roming is Research and Program Officer at the Unity Foundation. She has been with the Foundation since January 2001 and currently oversees the capacity building, grant making, and youth philanthropy programs. Roming is a graduate of the first class of the Mid-Coast Leadership Academy and the Hutchinson Center's Non-Profit Management Certificate Program.
The University of Maine Hutchinson Center, Route 3, Belfast, has designed the certificate program in non-profit organizational management for non-profit organization executives, staff members, and leaders to deal with contemporary issues and problems using realistic, “hands on” strategies. The various workshops will encourage interactive discussion of “real world” situations and actively engage participants in quality planning, effective program/service development, creative problem solving, and issue resolution. This certificate represents yet another of the offerings that the University ofMaine Hutchinson Center has created to be responsive to the educational needs of the community.
The non-profit workshops will appeal to those involved in a variety of organizational roles, including executive directors, board/trustee members, business managers, development officers, program officers, and those holding similar positions. Those not currently engaged in non-profit organizational roles—but seeking to move into these career areas—will also gain a great deal from participation in these workshops.
Upon completion of six of the workshops in the program, individuals will earn a certificate in Non-Profit Organization Management from the University of Maine Hutchinson Center.
