Student Services - Student Life

StudentsAs a student at the Hutchinson Center you'll be able to take advantage of not only our exceptional academic offerings and in-class experiences, but also our cultural and student life related activities and opportunities.

There's no better way to find out what it's like to be a student, then to hear from the students themselves! Below is a sampling of student testimonials to give you an idea of what to expect.

Student Renee Knowles"My experience at the Hutchinson Center has been wonderful and beneficial. Having the classes once a week has made it easier for me to work and spend time with my family. The professors are helpful and willing to work with you. They are passionate and excited about their subject and it shows in their teaching. They provide many different styles of classes such as ITV, Polycom, CV, Online, and Live classes to fit your learning style or schedule. The Hutchinson center also provides many services such as tutoring, student advising, and technical support. They offer computer labs with both Macs and PCs and the ability to copy and print for class purposes. Those who work at the Hutchinson center are always friendly and willing to help. Since I have attended the Hutchinson Center I don't mind going to class and I look forward to the lectures. The location is convenient so I can leave work or home and just drive a few minutes to class. The Hutchinson Center has allowed me to get my education and support myself at the same time. I can't wait to get my Bachelors Degree in Social Work and continue on to get my Masters in Social Work at the Hutchinson Center."

"The energy and positive attitudes that radiate from the Hutchinson Center every day as you enter the facility is an aspect that keeps me walking through the doors. I am exceedingly grateful for the staff and professors that make themselves available to each student. The small intimate classroom size makes the Hutchinson Center an atmosphere to be desired, not feared! There are a multitude of opportunities available through the Hutchinson Center the sky is the limit. If success is your goal the Hutchinson Center will help you get there."

Jasie Costigan
UMaine Business Major

Opal Ash"College life is great at the Hutchinson Center! There is always someone to talk to and get advice from. Everyone is always so helpful when there is a problem. I'm Opal and I'm the acting president of the Student Association. The process of forming this new association has been interesting and has given me a learning experience I will never forget! I encourage anyone who wants to pursue their education to start, or start back, at the 'Hutch!' The classes are small, the atmosphere is amazing, and the friends made here last forever!!!!"

UMA Mental Health and Human Services Major

"If it wasn't for the Hutchinson Center I would never have considered going back to school. It's that simple. I have wanted to earn a degree for as long as I can remember. But life doesn't always go the way you plan. I married, had two wonderful sons and life continued. I had pretty much put the idea of a degree on the back-burner until they began construction of the Hutchinson Center. Then it all became possible. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. The Hutchinson Center is the place to go for your education. The classes are varied in content and in schedule, the faculty is exceptional, and the Center staff knows what it is like to have life get in the way. They go out of their way to assist the student to make sure the students educational experience is both beneficial and enjoyable."

Katherine Lindeloft
UMaine Anthropology Major

"Last spring (2008) I completed a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from the University of Maine at Augusta. Having first attended college in another state 40 years ago, let me say that it truly is never too late. I was able to complete this degree by taking 2 courses per semester available at the Hutchinson Center via Interactive Television broadcast live from UMA. The wide variety of courses available with both day and evening classes, made scheduling easy and the short commute makes it all possible. The staff at the Hutchinson Center have always been friendly, helpful and supportive. Thanks to all."

John Penney
UMA Substance Abuse Rehab Technician Certificate

Students at the Hutchinson Center have busy lives full of family, employment, school, and of course fun! The Hutchinson Center has become a place where much of their lives revolve around and depend on. A few of these students have come together to help fellow students manage time, support each other, have fun, and help the Hutchinson Center continue to improve its services. The Hutchinson Center Student Association was installed only recently by students for students.
