Weekend MSW Cohort Forming in Calais and New Brunswick
Belfast. Join us for an Information Session at the Hutchinson Center in Belfast on August 6, 5 to 7 p.m. The popular Masters in Social Work (MSW) weekend program at the UMaine Hutchinson Center in Belfast is expanding to include simultaneous sites linked with video conferencing in Calais and Orono. Start date for the program is the Fall 2009 term that begins on August 31, 2009.
The UMaine Hutchinson Center MSW program is designed for the professional who is working full-time. Classes convene on Friday nights (5:30 to 8 p.m.) and again on Saturday morning (9:00 to 11:30 a.m.). Over the course of regular Fall, Spring, and Summer terms. Students register for six credit hours (2 graduate classes) that then meet on alternate weekends. Thus, one class meets on the first weekend and the second class meets on the next scheduled weekend. The classes are offered year-round making it possible to complete the Master’s degree as a part- time student in less than three years. The cohort model allows students to network and form professional relationships that will last beyond the end of the program. Professionals from all over the state and from New Brunswick, Canada, have graduated from the five cohorts held to date.
For this special expanded cohort, faculty will be live at each site on a rotating basis, so that once every three weeks each location will have a live instructor while the other two locations receive the class via video conferencing. Classes offered via video conferencing are two-way interactive, that is, both visual and audio are delivered in real time. Students at all sites have microphones that facilitate asking questions and actively participating in the class discussion. The instructor and all students can see all sites via televised video. Each site will also have a facilitator available to provide technical and instructional support as needed.
Current faculty and University representatives will be available to answer questions.
Light refreshments will be provided.
