College of Education and Human Development Ed. Leadership Program

During the fall semester 2014, the faculty of the College of Education and Human Development will continue to offer core courses to build upon and lead to a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership.  These courses (listed in the attachment) will be offered on Tuesday evenings from 4:30 to 7:30 PM at the Hutchinson Center in Belfast.

Adult Degree Completion Scholarship

The Hutchinson Center is excited to announce the availability of the Adult Degree Completion Scholarship.

The Adult Degree Completion Scholarship is intended to assist students who are returning to higher education after an absence of three years or more and who are completing their first baccalaureate degree.

Applicants must meet the following criteria in order to receive the scholarship:

•    Must be a matriculated student at a UMS institution seeking a first baccalaureate degree.
•    Must be a resident of the state of Maine.
•    Must be an undergraduate reentry student who has experienced a gap (three years or more) in the pursuit of postsecondary education. Students who returned to higher education beginning in Fall 2013 or more recently will be considered.
•    Must demonstrate financial need as determined by a completed FAFSA and/or statement outlining ability to pay/financial resources available for education.
•    Must be registered at least part time (6-8 credits per semester (Fall and Spring) or 9-12 credits total for the two semesters). Students enrolled in fewer credits will be considered on a case by case basis.

 

New Upcoming Art Exhibits

Come visit the Hutchinson Center to enjoy the new art exhibits that will be decorating our hallways and art gallery.

May 15-18 2014 – 12th Annual Senior Arts Festival: The entire Center is filled with amazing art created by our very talented local artists. Stop by between May 15th to the 18th and enjoy the festivities. Many of the pieces are for sale by the artist and outside arrangements can be made to purchase these works of art.

May 1 – Aug 31 2014 – Darling Marine Center: This new exhibit will begin in our conference center and move to the Fernald Art Gallery after the Senior Arts Festival. The exhibit will feature works of art depicting marine life from 14 artists who participated in the Science Illustration Workshop last July. The title of the exhibit is “The Unexpected Dimensions of an Object: Scientific Illustrations Under Glass. In addition to the art exhibit, there will also be some interesting artifacts filling our display cases.

Margaret Chase Smith Public Affairs Scholarship

Attention students!

The Margaret Chase Smith Public Affairs Scholarship for 2014-2015 is open for submissions. This is a $3500 scholarship for independent undergraduate research on a topic of public policy relevance. Students from all majors are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility Requirements:

·         Student must be a Maine resident, currently enrolled at UMaine for 12 credits or more,
·         be an undergraduate student with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and
·         have completed 40 degree hours prior to the current semester.

The amount of the 2014 – 2015 Margaret Chase Smith Public Affairs Scholarship will be $3,500 ($1,750 Fall/$1,750 Spring). The deadline for student applications is Friday, April 11, 2014.
